Beyond Blame2023
Beyond Blame is a project that emerged from rage and despair. It discusses a serious issue such as sexual abuse and assault. There is a persistent rape culture; we continue to blame the victims, making women responsible for these assaults from an early age. To begin this project, I performed research, interviewing and conversing with several victims.

Their experiences are painful, and they include the testimony of kids as young as 3 to adults as old as 28. They shared their stories with me, and I created this project for them. So they have a place to rest their grief and anger. Where mine has also a place. To give voice to all of the anonymous people that are still mourning. Their voices, once silenced, now have a place, alongside mine. This project is for them, for all those still waiting to be heard.

WAS THE OUTFIT REALLY THE PROBLEM?

In this second part of the project I photographed the clothes that the victims where wearing in the moment of the agression.

When will we stop blaming the victim? The clothes they wore, the choices they made, if they shouted ‘no’ loud enough, or had a drink. The blame belongs only to the one who harmed them.
